Če pri kolesarjenju igra okvir daleč najvidnejšo vlogo, so blažilni sistemi (skupaj z dograjenostjo nihajk) na drugem mestu, zavore pa na tretjem.

V prazničnem Dirtu (100-ta izdaja, prva številka letnika 2009, nabita z, po mnenju novinarjev, najpomembnejšimi kosi soon-to-be sezone) so se posvetili tudi zadnjim. Na začetek zgodbe so Angleži postavili parček Avid Elixir CR, za njim pa set Shimano Saint, Formula The One in nazadnje Quad Deuce..

Naše prvo srečanje z Elixirji se je odvijalo septembra. Njihova moč nas je prepričala, še bolj pa natančnost doziranja zavorne moči in enostavnost adaptacije na različne zavorne želje posameznikov. Brez orodja...

In the past we've always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Avid Juicy brakes. When they're working they offer the best feel of any brake, but the reality is air somehow gets into the system far too easily and renders them useless. Anyway, that's all in the past now because these new Elixir's don't suffer from any of those problems and yet they still offer that performance that we love. While Avid were sorting out that problem they also added a tool-free reach adjuster and made the bite point adjuster neater and more effective by moving it in line with the hose. Avid reckon the power of these brakes sits halfway between the Juicy's and Code's. Great looking and performing brakes, which can be pimped even further with a carbon lever option.
